According to reports, Corning Display Technology has invested in a total of 8 plants in mainland China, covering multiple generations of products, including three 10.5-generation plants. The Wuhan plant is Corning's second generation 10.5 LCD glass substrate plant in China. Prior to this, Corning's 10.5-generation glass substrate plant built in Hefei, Anhui Province has been mass-produced, and it is also supplying Corning's strategic partner BOE.

After the Wuhan production line is mass-produced, will Corning Display Technology continue to deepen and invest in the Chinese market? In an interview with China LCD Network and other media, He Sihua, vice president and general manager of the International Business Unit of Corning Display Technology, said that Corning has entered the Chinese market for more than 40 years and has invested more than US$8 billion in mainland China. Starting from the 5th generation line, Corning has invested in 8 LCD glass substrate factories in China. At present, the scale of China's display market is already very large, and it is expected to continue to grow.
He Sihua said that so far, Corning Display Technology has 100% satisfied customers' needs for 10.5 generation glass, but Corning will always adhere to the common development with customers, and has been paying attention to industry development trends. If there are some needs to provide support to other customers, an evaluation will be conducted to select the best time and best place to invest.
Research shows that the 10.5-generation glass can provide the most economical cutting solution for 65-inch and 75-inch panels. The 8.5-generation plant can produce 3 65-inch panels and 2 75-inch panels with a substrate utilization rate of 60%. The 10.5-generation substrate can produce 8 65-inch panels and 6 75-inch panels with a substrate utilization rate of 95%. . More than that, the efficiency of 65-inch and 75-inch panels produced by the 10.5-generation factory is 2 to 3 times that of the 8.5-generation factory.
Market organization TrendForce predicts that with Corning's two 10.5 generation glass substrate production lines successively mass-produced by Corning Display Technology, the shipment of TV panels of 65 inches and above this year is expected to increase by more than 30% compared with 2020.
