According to DIGITIMES, citing the report, Samsung Display's June stop of LCD production at its L8-2 plant will mark the end of its LCD panel business.

In 2017, Samsung Display closed four 5th-generation production lines for small and medium-sized LCD panels in South Korea, sold production equipment to Chinese panel manufacturers, and leased vacant factories to associated Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Samsung Electronics.

DIGITIMES reported that Samsung Display shut down a large-size LCD panel 7th-generation production line in 2016 and January 2021. Among them, the first factory has been converted to the 6th generation OLED panel production line, and the second factory is undergoing a similar conversion.

In addition, in the first half of 2021, Samsung Display sold its 8.5-generation LCD production line in East China to China Star Optoelectronics (CSOT), and the remaining L8-1 and L8-2 became its only LCD panel factories.

At present, Samsung Display has converted L8-1 into a QD-OLED production line. While the company has not decided on the future use of the L8-2, it could also be transformed into an 8th-generation OLED panel production line.
