China's display market sales accounted for 40% of the global market in the first quarter of 2021, ranking first

July 27, 2021

Core reminder: According to a report from foreign media businesskorea on July 26, the Chinese market accounted for 40% of global monitor sales in the first quarter of this year, surpassing South Korea by 7 percentage points. You know, in 2019, South Korea's display market sales still lead China by 11 percentage points.

According to the statistics of DSCC, the largest domestic display manufacturer, BOE’s revenue and profit in the first quarter were 7.7 billion U.S. dollars (approximately RMB 49.9 billion) and 1.4 billion U.S. dollars (approximately RMB 9.07 billion), surpassing Samsung and LG.

The dominant areas of Chinese display manufacturers are mainly LCD screens. At present, most TVs, computer monitors, and low-end smartphones are based on LCD screens.

In the past two years, sales of TVs, computer monitors and other products have risen, and the revenue of domestic monitor manufacturers has increased. LG had previously announced that it would discontinue LCD screen production in 2020, but finally reluctant to bear this fat, and announced that it would postpone LCD screen production until the end of 2021. Relevant media predict that the market share of domestic display manufacturers will reach 60.7% in 2021.

The disadvantage of domestic companies lies in OLED screens for the time being. Now mid-to-high-end smartphones have begun to popularize OLED screens, and high-end TVs and PC monitors have also begun to experiment with OLED screens. This kind of screen is undoubtedly the future. Samsung currently has an almost monopoly in the field of OLED screens, with a market share of up to 80% in the mobile phone OLED screen market.

However, domestic companies have never given up, and are still investing in manpower and material resources to develop OLED screen technology. Relevant media predict that by 2022, Samsung's market share of mobile phone OLED screens will fall to about 60%, and domestic companies are expected to rise and swallow more shares.

businesskorea pointed out that the advantage of Chinese display companies lies in the fact that the country has always supported companies in technological research and development, and will provide these companies with tax, hydropower and other support policies. The domestic display production cost is only 71% of South Korea.

Since last year, domestic display manufacturers have continued to make efforts, and some companies have begun to choose to support them, such as the Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition, which is equipped with Huaxing Optoelectronics’ native 10bit screen, and ZTE’s Axon 20 screen camera phone uses Visionox. Huawei has always been a partner of BOE.

It is believed that with the huge investment in research and development funds, the strength of domestic display manufacturers will gradually approach established manufacturers such as Samsung and LG.
